It's easy to implement a feature-rich footer area in the Website Editor. Your footer can display a lot of useful information for your visitors including additional navigation, your logo, and a slogan, contact and copyright information. Let's learn how you can customize the footer.
1. Click on the Add a block (+) button and navigate to Footers area in the Blocks Library.
2. Choose the footer that supports your website strategy. There are 5 footer types available:
- Minimalistic footer with a logo and a website name.
- A footer with logo and social media icons.
- A footer with a row of links and social media icons.
- A footer with columns of links that offers detailed navigation around your website.
You can customize each of these footer types.
Note: Some of the footer elements such as logo, social media links, and your contact information are already reflecting the changes you made when customizing the website settings.
Customizing the footer block settings
When you choose the footer with more features such as links or a slogan, you can modify these settings.
1. Choose the Footer block with columns of links.
2. Hover over the footer area to trigger the appearance of the Block Settings Pane.
Here you can modify the following footer options:
- Business logo: uncheck this option and your logo will not be showing in the footer.
- Site name: check this option to show your website name in the footer.
- Business social links: check this option to include your social media links in the footer.
- Column title: this option sets the title to each link column.
- Block links: you can choose to show columns of links in the footer or not.
In the Appearance Panel, you can customize the background color of your footer.
Once done modifying footer settings, click Save to confirm the changes.
Editing the link column title
You can set custom titles for the columns of links in the footer. Let's enter, for example, "Useful resources" as a title for one of our link columns.
1. Make sure you have checked the option Column title in the Block settings.
2. Hover over the title you want to change and click on it.
3. Delete the text and type in Useful resources.
That's it! You have renamed the column.
Customizing footer links
You can modify every link in your footer. To add the destination to the link, you can Edit link.
1. Hover over the link in the footer to trigger the Link Editing Pane and click on the "chain" link icon.
2. Choose the name of the page you want this link to lead to, or paste or type in the external URL. Here's how you can modify links.
Adding more links to the footer
If you want your footer to contain more links to your website pages, you can duplicate any column with links. You have two options on how to do that:
Duplicating the link column:
1. Hover over the column you want to duplicate.
2. In the Column Editing Pane, click on the Duplicate icon.
3. The copy of the column will appear to the right of the original column.
Duplicating the individual link:
1. Hover over any link you want to duplicate.
2. In the link editing pane, click on Duplicate icon.
3. The new link will appear below the original link. Add the destination to it as above.
Deleting links in the footer
If you feel you have too many links in the footer, you can delete any of them. Hover over any link you want to delete to trigger the Link Editing Menu, and click on the Trash icon.
The link will be deleted.
Note: Remember, you can always reverse the changes if needed by pressing the Redo button in the upper right corner.
Relocating links
You can move links between columns to ensure your footer navigation meets your website building needs. To move the link to another location in your footer do the following:
1. Hover over the link you want to move and click on the "crossed arrow" Move icon.
2. Drag the link to the new location and drop it there.
Congratulations! You have moved your link around the footer.
Customizing the copyright information
Although not mandatory, using a copyright notice may actually help to prevent infringements. A copyright notice contains three elements:
- The copyright symbol © or the word "Copyright."
- If the website is published, the year of publication.
- The name of the copyright owner.
